First Canadian Scientific Organization: lead to growth of Canadian economy.
I guess it would. Pushed the principles of mapping for mineral resources.

Should be some good life histories of this guy out there.
Brought Canada's resources to the world. Book:
1863: "Geology of Canada" told the world of the rocks and economic potential.

Born in Montreal--studied in Edinburgh.
Went to Swansea.
No formal education in geology--but interest in mineralogy.
1842-- became provincial geologist for Canada--established GSC.
worked with part-timers who saw importance of the work.

1843--worked in coal fields of NS and NB. This is where to put him.
then began exploring Gaspe, Ottawa, Lake Superior, Eastern townships, North Shore, North of lake huron, gold of Chaudiere, and Southeast Canadian Shield.

Worked in the Arctic--and discovered the land in the Arctic.

Mary River Iron on Baffin Island.

Fluorite Tin Tungsten in lost River, Alaska.

Anecdote-ish- Famous canoe-trip.

Used aircraft in his northern explorations--innovation.

Arctic stuff:
The discovery of the Mary River iron deposits in the northerly half of Baffin Island; as having early recognized the value of the Vestgron zinc-lead deposits in Greenland; as the finder of the "47"-zone copper deposit in the Coppermine River area of the Northwest Territories; and recognition of the value of the fluorite-tin-tungsten, deposits at Lost River in Alaska.
